Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy may be filled with math, science, and robotics wiz kids but now, according to Google, they can add artistic genius to their list of student accolades.
PMSA Senior Crystal Galloway entered into a national competition to “Doodle 4 Google,” a competition where K-12 students work their artistic will upon Google’s homepage logo. Galloway was one of 400 State Finalists whose doodle was chosen from a total of 33,000 entries from across the country. The theme was, “If I Could Do Anything, I Would….” Galloway’s doodle illustrated that if she could—she would rebuild the world.
“The world has a lot of bad things going on in it,” said Galloway. “So if I could rebuild it, I would. My sketch is a woman sitting on top of the “o” re-creating the world.”
PMSA Principal Ed Moyer congratulated Galloway on her accomplishment saying she is a great example of the level of creativity and talent flourishing in PMSA.
“This just shows the really creative side of our students and the initiative they take to expand in the arts and to express their varied talents,” said Moyer. “We are very proud of her, and we know that she will continue to excel.”
Google officials praised the winners, their teachers, and PMSA administrators for supporting Galloway in this project.
“Doodle 4 Google wouldn’t have been possible without the help and guidance of teachers and administrators who work hard every day to encourage art and creativity in the classroom — it is this sort of creativity that will lead to tomorrow's designers, technologists and engineers,” officials said.
As for Galloway, it will lead to a great artiste, and though impressing the makers of Google is notable, she has been a young and thriving artist at PMSA for quite some time. She is the illustrator of the student published novel “A Love Story.” After senior year, Galloway plans to attend California College of the Arts.
