Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy is filled with aspiring doctors, nurses, engineers, and scientists who will soon be greeted by the leader of Illinois’ Nursing Association. The following day, students will gain a better understanding of life as a med student at UIC’s Annual Med School Day.
On Friday, January 21st (8:15 a.m. - 8:55 a.m.) PMSA’s anatomy and physiology class will host a presentation by Mr. Danny Fraczkowski, the current Director at Large of Illinois’ Nursing Association. Fraczkowski will introduce PMSA students to “Nursing: A World of Opportunity.” On Saturday, January 22nd PMSA students will travel to UIC’s College of Medicine where they will learn more about life as a medical student. At UIC, students will participate in anatomy and pathology labs, hands-on demonstrations and presentations, and various health and medical workshops.
“I wanted to get our students exposed to different aspects of the health profession from people who are actually in it,” said PMSA’s anatomy and physiology teacher, Mr. Petrynek. “There are quite a few students interested in the healthcare field, and there is a world of opportunity there. In our [PMSA] classes we try to offer exposure and opportunity for our students. We want them to connect faces and names to their future professions. The connections that they make are important. So we want to do whatever we can to help make those connections for our students.”
During their nursing presentation and during Med School Day, students will have an opportunity to interact with medical professionals, ask questions about life in the world of medicine, and experience what it is like to study medicine and work in the health care field.
