PMSA Robotics Team Presents Violence Prevention Program Overview to Triton College

The Monty Pythons of PMSA’s Robotics Team stayed active in PTHS communities over the summer promoting engineering, education, and non-violence in partnership with Triton Community College. On Tuesday, October 20th the Pythons presented an overview of their program to Triton College’s Board of Trustees.

The Robotics Team Summer Program called BEAST (Bringing Effective Anti-violence Strategies Together) is a summer program for kids ages 5 - 13. BEAST focuses on using robotics and engineering as a tool to teach anti-violence. PMSA students worked with youth and their peers from July 6 - 10.

PMSA Senior and Robotics Team Member Jenny Six said the Monty Pythons took great pride in working with the community.

“We aren't just a group of teenagers building robots,” said Six. “We want to be involved in the community. The robotics team gives us that opportunity. Every time we have an event, our members are not only representing the Monty Pythons, we are representing PMSA. We want people to know who our team is and who our school is so that PMSA and the Robotics Team will have more opportunities like this one.”

BEAST was the first youth outreach program run by PMSA and the Monty Pythons. Students say they learned a lot about teamwork, counseling, and leadership. They also enjoyed getting younger students interested in robotics.

PTHS 209 Superintendent Dr. Nettie-Collins Hart, PMSA Principal Ed Moyers, The mother of Tom Dix (in memoriam), and PMSA parents were all present to support the students.

Good Work Monty Pythons!
