Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is stepping in to lend PMSA students and teachers a hand.
Earlier this month the PTO donated over $500 worth of athletic and wellness equipment to benefit PMSA’s entire student body. Last year, the wellness class lost a lot of its exercise ropes, balls, and outdoor game equipment. When PMSA’s wellness teacher, Ms. McCormick, sent the PTO a “wish list letter,” the active parent team came to the rescue.
“As a wellness department, we have to be very creative to keep students interested,” McCormick said. “We didn’t have much equipment for the students to use. We submitted the PTO request form and they gave us everything we asked for. We were so happy that they came through for us. We put together a thank you sign and had the entire school sign it.”
The students of PMSA were so grateful for the equipment that they had the art department create a thank you sign. Everyone in the school was encouraged to sign it.
“It is just great—what they did,” said PMSA senior Keith Dass. “It was really helpful. We didn’t have this much equipment before. Now we can go outside and use the new stuff. We’re very grateful. We want them [the PTO] to know that their good work is not unseen. What they did is helping all 775 students.”
PMSA senior Lea Randolph agreed.
“They didn’t have to give us those things,” she said. “They were so generous. We really want to show that we appreciate them.”
Overall the students thanked the PTO for supporting their class, and for giving them more fun and exciting ways to participate in health and wellness.
Thank you PMSA PTO! You are a vital part of Proviso Rising.
