The PMSA Robotics Team is getting in gear to participate in their highly anticipated regional robotics competition sponsored by FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).
"Being able to compete in FIRST is something that we're really excited about and really glad to be doing," said Robotics Team Captain and PMSA junior Sean Asaro. "We've competed at FIRST before. Every year we get better, and we love it."
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a unique varsity sport of the mind designed to help high-school-aged young people discover how interesting and rewarding the life of engineers and researchers can be. This year's competition is expected to draw 1,700 teams and 42,500 high school students from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Israel, Mexico, the Netherlands, the U.K., and every state in the U.S.
The FRC takes place February 26th-28th at the University of Illinois-Chicago. PMSA Robotics students and Robotics Team Sponsor, Tom Dix, say they have been preparing for this competition since last year.
"This tournament is a culmination of a whole year's worth of effort for the team," said Dix. "They have been focused on this specific tournament since last year. It motivates them tremendously. They've taken college classes at Triton and have competed with other schools to help build up for FIRST."
The event is expected to have recruiters and observers from colleges and large technology companies such as Hewlett Packard and Motorola. To learn more about the PMSA Robotics Team and how to support them in their upcoming tournament, please contact Robotics Team Sponsors 708.338.5927.
