Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy Senior, Jennifer Ugharte has been recognized as a National Merit Scholar and as a National Hispanic Scholar for scoring in the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students in the nation on her Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT).
Since then, Ugharte has been accepted into every single college she’s applied to including Knox University, Brown College, Grinnell College, and Carleton University. She’s been offered over $166,000 in college scholarships.
Ugarte is one of 34,000 students throughout the United States who has been recognized as a National Merit Scholar for excelling on the PSAT exam. She is one of 5,000 to be recognized as a National Hispanic Scholar. Ugharte says because she did so well on her PSAT’s and received these recognitions her college choices have greatly expanded.
“I am extremely honored to receive this recognition,” said Ugharte. “These recognitions had a lot to do with me being accepted into so many great schools. I was also offered a number of full-tuition scholarships from some schools, and thousands of dollars in scholarships at others. So this has really helped expand my options for school. Now my college choice will be based on which school is right for me and not on cost.”
Ugharte is one of many PMSA seniors who have been awarded high dollar scholarships. Thus far, the class of 2010 has received over $5 million in scholarship offers.
Congratulations Jennifer! You are a vital part of Proviso Rising!
